DESIGN – LANDSCAPE – DESIGNING SENSITIVELY

- The Learning Annexe is designed to be inward-looking. Built against the boundary wall, the new windows and doorways spill out onto the existing courtyard rather than the neighbouring properties.
- The roof to the Winter Garden contains and attenuates outbreak noise.
- Strategic planting and positioning of windows in the Learning Annexe safeguard the privacy of adjacent buildings.
- Both the Winter Garden and the Learning Annexe are crafted to complement their context. Materials are sensitively considered to contribute to the existing local context.
- Within the Learning Annexe, the corridor at first floor level buffers the teaching spaces from the boundary wall. This maintains privacy, rights to light, and prevents overlooking into the neighbourly residential amenity space. There are no rear windows in the Learning Annexe.
- The Centre shall provide access for all users. A new lift improves circulation to all levels and areas of the Centre. Enhancement to the Community Garden integrating level access puts inclusivity at the heart of the scheme.
- New onsite bike storage is proposed to encourage health and wellbeing and a reduced reliance on public transport or the car.
